Our bed bases are supplied with both castor wheels and rigid plastic glides. We recommend having castor wheels at the head of the bed and rigid plastic glides at the foot end. This is common practice in the hospitality industry, primarily for practical and safety reasons. Let’s dive into why this arrangement is often preferred and how it helps housekeepers maintain hotel guest rooms.
Castor wheels at the head of the bed allow for easy movement of the bed and base. This alleviates strain on housekeeper’s backs when pulling the bed out from the headboard to dress the bed, and then repositioning the bed back against the wall once made.
Rigid plastic glides at the foot end of the bed provide stability and prevent the bed from moving unintentionally. Guests will often sit at the foot end of the bed and if there is a wheel, this can move and swivel. This movement and strain can cause damage and breakage to the castor.
Additionally, having the bed firmly anchored at one end reduces the risk of accidents or injuries caused by the bed shifting unexpectedly. This is important in hotel environments where guest safety is a top priority.
The arrangement of head-end castors and foot-end glides helps maintain a uniform appearance in the room. Als, it allows housekeepers to easily identify the orientation of the bed when making it or arranging the room’s layout.
An easily moveable bed at the head-end allows housekeepers to move the bed easily, helping them effectively clean and vacuum the floor underneath the bed. This ensures thorough cleaning and helps maintain cleanliness standards in the guest room.
The stable footing provided by the rigid glides at the foot-end also helps facilitate cleaning around and underneath the bed without the risk of it shifting unexpectedly.
Overall, the practice of using castor wheels at the head-end and rigid plastic glides at the foot-end of hotel beds is optimal. The orientation aids functionality, safety, and efficiency for both housekeepers and guests. It ensures that the guest room can be maintained to high standards of operational best practice, saving housekeepers time and the hotel business unnecessary costly maintenance having to replace damaged bed legs too often.
