Background.
Nestled at the base of Mauao on the popular “Mount” main beach, lies the Mount Maunganui clubhouse – a beacon of safety for beachgoers. Just 20 minutes from Tauranga in the beautiful Bay of Plenty, this facility houses lifeguards who patrol 10 kilometers of coastline. Because of its age, the former clubhouse was no longer up to safety standards, prompting a complete rebuild. This provided on-site accommodation for lifeguards, school groups, and function rooms for hire.
Thanks to meticulous planning and community fundraising, construction began in May 2017. This was then completed and reopened in 2018. The new building was built to be fit-for-purpose. It boasts improved accommodation, ample space for multiple community groups, and a host of other benefits.
The Project.
The Mount Maunganui Lifeguard Service initiated the renovation project to provide a purpose-built facility, and the operations manager of the club contacted Vendella as a potential supplier for bunk beds, bedding, kitchen, and crockery items. Account manager Jim Boakes provided information, proposals, and delivery times for these products. Because of this, the the club was able to rely on Vendella for all of their supplies and furnishings.
International Lifeguards were returning to New Zealand to support our local guards, and they will be living in the Surf Club to provide extra support to the community. It is important to have comfortable beds for this line of work, and Vendella could provide premium-quality foam mattresses, bunks and mattress protectors. Additionally, the kitchen is also fitted with all the equipment required to keep lifeguards managing their nutritional needs, share eating and meals together and stay fed and watered for their patrols.
