Background.
Named after the University’s first Māori graduate, Te Rangihīroa is the first University-owned, purpose-built college in approximately 50 years. This new seven-level college replaced the existing 125-bed college of the same name on Dunedin’s Castle Street and was designed to meet the 5-Star Greenstar certification. Designed to provide a nurturing environment for first-year residents and enable best practice pastoral care, accommodation is arranged across four wings and includes bedrooms with the option of ensuites, extensive social and study spaces, and a fully catered dining hall. It also has generous landscaped courtyards open off the ground-floor level common areas and four staff townhouses to support the college’s pastoral care programme. Each room is fully furnished for the students, light, modern and have been carefully designed and fitted out to meet the needs of the students for many years to come.
The Project.
With the project being a new 450 bed facility, built to meet an increase in student enrolments, mattresses were required for the rooms. Vendella has the tender for the supply and replenishment of mattresses to University of Otago, so the team came to the Vendella team. Account Manager, Jason Walton sent a sample of the Makers Napa Plus Mattress to the University team for trial. One of the features they loved was the fact that it is delivered – compressed and rolled in a box. This made the logistics of getting the mattresses into the building easy and convenient.
