BACKGROUND
Situated in Christchurch, Unilodge Ilam Apartments is a purpose-built student accommodation provider for first-year students or those completing post-graduate studies. Offering private and shared apartment-style accommodation, the complex provides independent living on campus for 847 residents, with three apartment types, all comprising a mixture of studios and multi-shared apartments. Full accommodation bed packs are also available, which can be purchased at the point of booking.
THE PROJECT
Vendella has partnered with UC Accommodation since 2014 in designing and supplying made-up bed packs. As well as these bed packs, Vendella also refurbished the rooms with bed frames, mattresses, and provides fresh mattress protectors for all beds each year. Each mattress protector is made from microfibre, which is made from recycled plastic bottles. These mattress protectors recycles seven bottles, and since 2014 UCA has helped Vendella recycle 95,743 bottles.
PROBLEMS WE SOLVED / REASONS FOR PARTNERING WITH VENDELLA
UCA chose to work with Vendella due to our understanding of their need regarding product specifications, and the ability to deliver an assembled bed pack ready to hand over to students when checking in. The budget was also crucial so that UCA could deliver a cost-effective option rather than students purchasing their bedding from retail stores.
